The Foo Fighters concert at UTAS Stadium on 24 January was a clear demonstration of the types of events Tasmania can attract, Stadiums Tasmania CEO James Avery said.
Mr Avery said hosting an artist of this calibre and profile proved that the state could deliver events of a national and international standard.
“The first ever Foo Fighters concert in Launceston was a success by any measure, paving the way for future events” he said.
“We wanted to make it an unforgettable experience, and I think we achieved this.”
The official crowd number was 25,157 people, making it the state’s biggest concert event.
Mr Avery said beyond the concert itself, the northern Tasmanian economy and the broader Tasmanian economy received a significant and positive boost.
“The concert drew people from all over the state and from interstate, and even from overseas,” he said.
“Launceston hotel occupancy rates were high, and pubs and restaurants enjoyed significant business before and after the concert, with additional people employed for the weekend trade.
“And inside the venue there were 35 food and beverage stalls employing about 1000 staff.
“This is the type of event Stadiums Tasmania is seeking to deliver regularly as we look to elevate the stadium experience right across the state.
“We thank those event partners, and the Stadiums Tasmania team, who helped secure and deliver this event that will have a significant and lasting community and economic legacy.”
